Nebraska Teacher and Administrator Certification Application Information and Instructions


To be eligible for recommendation by WGU's Licensure Office, students completing a bachelor’s degree, a post baccalaureate teacher preparation program, or a Master of Science in Special Education degree must graduate and have their degree posted to their WGU transcript.  Students who are pursuing a Master of Arts in Teaching degree must have marks of "passed” on their Degree Plan for all teacher preparation assessments to include any program required Praxis exams and all state required exams.

 

Nebraska Licensure Instructions: 

Step 1:  Download the Nebraska Applicant Manual, and read through it completely.

Step 2:  Request official transcripts in sealed envelopes from every college you have attended. Once your graduation application has been processed by the WGU Records Office you will receive a notification with information on how to order two complimentary copies of your official WGU transcript from the National Student Clearinghouse. You will have the option of selecting electronic or mail delivery. If you would like to order additional transcripts, see the WGU Transcript FAQ article. Do not request a transcript until you have received notice of graduation, so that your graduation date will appear on your transcript. MAT students may request a transcript after completing the teacher preparation portion of their MAT program. Be sure to leave transcripts you elect to have mailed to you in their sealed envelopes.

 
Step 3: If the Nebraska Department of Education was not listed as a recipient on your Praxis score report, you may be required to submit a score report from ETS.  After you submit your application, a Certification Analyst from the Nebraska Department of Education will notify you if you must submit your Praxis test results. 

Step 4: If you are applying for the first issuance of a Nebraska certificate/permit and have not been a resident of Nebraska for the immediate past five (5) years from the date of application, you must have prints by Livescan OR Ink Rolled (2 cards) by law enforcement. State Patrol offices in Nebraska do not charge a fee to do fingerprints. However, other law enforcement agencies may charge a fee to have prints taken. The fingerprint requirement applies even if you have recently submitted fingerprint information in any other state. Step 5: Write your name and social security number on the top of the Institutional Verification form and send it to the WGU Certification Analyst at the contact information below. The analyst will fill out the remainder of the form and return it to you in a sealed envelope for inclusion in your application packet.  Please send email attachments in pdf format.

WGU must have copies of all content and pedagogy exam scores on file before the recommendation can be completed.

Step 6: If you have completed a Master's or an Educational Leadership program, you must verify completion of Nebraska's Human Relations training requirements through coursework completed at other institutions, or through experience, per the instructions on pages 33 - 39 of the Applicant Manual. 

Step 7: Complete all sections of the Application for a Nebraska Educator Certificate or Permit form, either online or, using the paper form.

Step 8: If you have been a continuous Nebraska resident in the five years proceeding submission of your application, and are therefore not required to do a background check, then you must complete the Record of Residence form.

Step 9: Those applying for an administrative certificate must submit the Verification of Employment Experience form to the appropriate administrator at a current or previously employing school district, whomever can verify two years of consecutive certificated teaching experience in the same public school system in the past five years. This form should be returned to you for inclusion in your application packet. 

Step 10: Compile your application packet:

 

1. Application form,
2. Record of Residence form (if applicable),
3. Completed fingerprint cards (if applicable),
4. All official transcripts,
5. Documents verifying completion of Human Relations Training,

6. Documents verifying completion of Special Education Training,
7. Institutional Verification form,
8. Verification of Successive Experience form (if applicable),
9. Application fee of $55 in the form of a check or money order made payable to the Nebraska Department of Education.  If you are submitting fingerprint cards as part of your application packet, then you need to add the additional $50 processing fee to the check or money order.
