New Jersey BA Special Education/Elementary Education Certification and Exam Requirements
In New Jersey, this program leads to certifications in Elementary School Teacher in Grades K-6 and Students with Disabilities (CEAS).
Graduates of WGU's BA Special Education/Elementary Education teacher preparation program will be eligible for Elementary School Teacher in Grades K-6 and Students with Disabilities CEAS teacher certification in New Jersey. The Students with Disabilities endorsement will allow you to be the primary instructor of students with disabilities (other than blind/visually impaired and deaf/hard of hearing) in grades K-6, as well as to provide consultative/collaborative instructional services for students with disabilities in all grades.
Please note that you will not be Highly Qualified to be the primary instructor of core academic subjects to special education students who are learning at the secondary-level. You would need to be certified to teach regular education at the secondary level as well in order to be eligible for endorsement to act as the primary instructor of students with disabilities at that level.
Elementary Education/ Special Education Exams and Requirements:
Content Exam: Praxis 5001, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects
(OR Praxis 5031, if started prior to 9/1/14 AND all four subtests were passed before 8/31/15 OR Praxis 0014 (paper) or 5014 (computer), Elementary Education: Content Knowledge if taken prior to 9/1/2012.)
WGU Program Requirement: Praxis 5543, Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications (for students who matriculated on 9/1/2011 or after)
