New Jersey Master of Arts in Mathematics Education (MAME) Certification and Exam Requirements

All secondary education students must complete a minimum of 30 credits in their subject area for certification in NJ. These MAME programs do not contain 30 credits in a specific area, so additional credits may be required. If additional credits are required – as determined by the NJ DoE – these additional credits must be earned at an institution other than WGU.  

 

In New Jersey, WGU's Master of Arts in Mathematics Education (Middle Grades) leads to a certification in Elementary with Subject Matter Specialization: Mathematics Grades 5 – 8 (CE).

 

1) Content Exam: Praxis 5169, Middle School Mathematics (OR if passed prior to Sept. 2013, Praxis II 0069, Middle School Mathematics)

This exam also satisfies the WGU program requirement.
AND
Praxis 5001, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge (OR, if passed prior to 9/1/2014: Praxis 5031, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects OR, if passed prior to 9/1/2012: Praxis 0014 (paper) or 5014 (computer), Elementary Education: Content Knowledge)


In New Jersey, WGU's Master of Arts in Mathematics Education (Secondary) program leads to a certification in Mathematics (CEAS).

1) Content Exam: Praxis 5161, Mathematics: Content Knowledge (OR, if passed prior to Sept 2013 Praxis 0061, Mathematics: Content Knowledge) 

This exam also satisfies the WGU program requirement.
