NJ Master of Arts in Science Education (MASE) Certification and Exam Requirements

New Jersey Master of Arts in Science Education (MASE) Certification and Exam Requirements

All secondary education students must complete a minimum of 30 credits in their subject area for certification in New Jersey. These MASE programs do not contain 30 credits in a specific area, so additional credits may be required.

In New Jersey, this program (MASE9) leads to a certification in Elementary with Subject Matter Specialization: Science Grades 5 – 8 (CE).

1) Content Exam: Praxis 5440, Middle School Science (OR, if passed prior to 9/1/2014: Praxis 0439, Middle School Science)

This exam will satisfy the WGU Program Requirement.

AND

2. Praxis 5001, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects (OR, if passed prior to 1/1/2015: Praxis 5031, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects OR, if passed prior to 9/1/2012:  Praxis 5014, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge)

WGU MASE grades 5-9 graduates are eligible for a New Jersey Certificate of Eligibility rather than a Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing because the MASE grades 5-9 program does not contain a course in “Child and Early Adolescent Development."

In New Jersey, this program (MASE12) leads to a certification in one of the following areas:

Biological Science (CEAS)
