New Jersey Middle Grades Mathematics Certification and Exam Requirements

In order to be eligible for Middle Grades licensure in NJ you must hold an Elementary K-6 license. The Elementary K-6 license requires 60 hours of coursework in liberal arts and a passing score on the Praxis 5001. WGU's Bachelor programs cover this coursework; Post-Baccalaureate and Masters students need to have completed this requirement in previous coursework or hold an Elementary K-6 license.

In New Jersey, this program leads to a certification in Elementary with Subject Matter Specialization: Mathematics Grades 5 – 8 (CEAS). 
 
Content Exams:
1. Required for Elementary School Teacher in Grades K-6 Certification:  Praxis 5001, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects (OR if taken prior to 9/1/2014: Praxis 5031, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects OR if taken prior to 9/1/2012: Praxis 0014 (paper) or 5014 (computer), Elementary Education: Content Knowledge)
                   AND
2. Required for Elementary School with Subject Matter Specialization: Mathematics in Grades 5-8 Certification: Praxis 5169, Middle School Mathematics (OR if taken prior to September 2013, Praxis 0069 Middle School Mathematics)
