NJ Secondary Science Certification and Exam Requirements

New Jersey Secondary Science Certification and Exam Requirements

WGU students who want to become certified teachers in secondary science in New Jersey must first license in Utah after completing their teacher preparation program. They may then apply for a reciprocal license in New Jersey. Students must take the exams required for Utah and New Jersey initial licensure, as indicated in the table below, as well as meet all other general Utah teacher certification requirements and general New Jersey teacher certification requirements.

In New Jersey, this program leads to a certification in one of the following areas:

Biological Science (CEAS)
Chemistry (CEAS)

Earth Science (CEAS)

Physics (CEAS)

Graduates of a WGU science grades 5-12 teacher preparation program will be eligible for grades 6-12 teacher certification in Utah in the area(s) in which they have content specialization. Students in a Post-baccalaureate or MAT Science 5-12 program will be eligible for certification that aligns with their undergraduate science major and must take the corresponding content exams. After receiving the initial Utah certification, graduates can then apply for the New Jersey science CEAS certification.
