How to Add an Additional Endorsement

MA Mathematics Education (MAME)

MA Science Education (MASE)

A) Adding an Endorsement at the Same Grade Level (Secondary > Secondary)

Secondary educators holding current New Mexico secondary teaching licenses can add endorsements to their licenses by either passing a NMTA content knowledge assessment in the area of licensure sought or after completing at least 24 semester hours of coursework in the new content area, 12 of which need to be from upper-division coursework. To apply, download and complete the Application for Adding an Endorsement Area.

B) Adding an Endorsement at a New Grade Level (Elementary > Secondary, Special Education > Secondary)

IMPORTANT: Elementary and Special Education educators may not add math or science areas to their license without completing a full secondary program with student teaching.  Therefore, these candidates should not enroll in the endorsement (MAME/MASE) programs at Western Governors University.

MS Special Education (MSSP)

New Mexico educators who wish to add a license in the area of Special Education may do so after completing WGU’s state-approved program.  To apply:

Step 1: Obtain your WGU official transcript. Two copies of your final WGU transcript will be sent to you along with your diploma upon graduation. If you would like to order additional transcripts, see WGU Transcript Request. Be sure to leave your transcripts in the sealed envelopes to be included with your application packet.

Step 2: Download and complete the Application for Adding an Endorsement Area.

Step 3: Send the completed and signed application, official transcript(s), and a cashier's check or money order for $35 made payable to the New Mexico Public Education Department to
