New Mexico Early Childhood Education Certification and Exam Requirements


Early Childhood Education Certification Available: Early Childhood Birth-Grade 3

Graduates of a WGU early childhood education teacher preparation program will be eligible for birth-grade 3 early childhood teacher certification in New Mexico, which will allow them to teach in any multiple subject classroom in that grade range.

Early Childhood Education Exams and Requirements:



Exam Requirement Note
Early Childhood Content Exam

Pass Any One of the Following NMTA Exams:

  1. Early Childhood Education (Birth - PreK)

 WGU Program Required Exam

Pass Any One of the Following:

  1. Praxis 5001, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects
  2. Praxis 5018, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge
  3. Praxis 5014, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge
  4. Praxis 5031, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects
You must pass one of these exams in order to graduate.
