LICENSE AND EXAM REQUIREMENTS

Endorsement Available for Graduates of WGU's MS Special Education Program:  Special Education Pk-12

Special Education Exam Requirements:

 

Exam Requirement Note
Content Exams

NMTA Special Education (601)

Students must pass this exam before applying for endorsement.

Pedagogy Exams

Pedagogy Exam:   NMTA Assessment of Professional Knowledge: Elementary (051)

      OR

NMTA Assessment of Professional Knowledge: Secondary (052)

Students must pass one of the Assessments of Professional Knowledge before they apply for endorsement.

 

If passed prior to 1/5/2015, New Mexico Assessment of Teacher Competency—Elementary (03) may be substituted for NMTA Assessment of Professional Knowledge: Elementary (051).

 

If passed prior to 1/5/2015, New Mexico Assessment of Teacher Competency—Secondary (04) may be substituted for NMTA Assessment of Professional Knowledge: Secondary (052).

WGU Program Requirement Praxis 5543, Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications Students must pass this exam before applying for graduation.


PRACTICUM REQUIREMENT

 

Those who matriculate in the MS Special Education program after March 1, 2010 will complete 240 in-class clock hours of supervised practicum in elementary and secondary special education classrooms as part of their capstone project.
