LICENSE AND EXAM REQUIREMENTS

Middle Grades Science Certification Available: Middle Level Science, Grades 5-9
Secondary Science Certifications Available: Secondary Science, Grades 7-12

Graduates of a WGU Master of Arts in Science Education (MASE) grades 5-9 program will be eligible for grades 5-9 science teacher licensure in New Mexico, which will allow them to teach in any single subject middle school science classroom in that grade range.

Graduates of a WGU Master of Arts in Science Education (MASE) grades 5-12 program will be eligible for grades 7-12 science teacher licensure in New Mexico, which will allow them to teach in any single subject science classroom in that grade range.  New Mexico does not offer certification in science specialization areas (i.e. biology, chemistry, physics), so WGU students in any science specialization program will be eligible for this license.

Licensed New Mexico educators can apply to add additional endorsement areas to their current teaching licenses after either passing a NMTA content knowledge assessment in the area of licensure sought or after completing at least 24 semester hours of coursework in the new content area, 12 of which need to be from upper-division coursework. Additional information on types of courses accepted for the various endorsement areas is available on the New Mexico Department of Education website.
