New Mexico Secondary Mathematics Certification and Exam Requirements

LICENSE AND EXAM REQUIREMENTS

Secondary Mathematics Certification Available: Secondary Mathematics, Grades 7-12

Important Note Regarding Field Experiences and Licensure

 

Graduates of a WGU mathematics grades 5-12 teacher preparation program will be eligible for grades 7-12 mathematics teacher licensure in New Mexico, which will allow them to teach in any single subject mathematics classroom in that grade range.

Content Exams

NMTA Mathematics (304)

For policies and deadlines see State Certification Exam Requirements, General Policies and Pacing Guides: Preparing for Demonstration Teaching.

 

If passed prior to 1/5/2015: NMTA Mathematics (14) may be substituted.

Pedagogy Exams

NMTA  Assessment of Professional Knowledge: Secondary (052)

This exam must be passed before requesting a recommendation for teacher licensure.

 

If passed prior to 1/5/2015: New Mexico Assessment of Teacher Competency—Secondary (04) may be substituted.

WGU Program Requirement

Praxis 5161 Mathematics: Content Knowledge

Students must pass this exam before applying for graduation.
