Nevada BA Special Education / Elementary Education Certification and Exam Requirements

In Nevada, this program leads to an Initial License in Elementary Education Grades K-8 and Exceptional Pupils Generalist Resource Room K-12

Note: You will not be Highly Qualified to be the primary instructor of core academic subjects to special education students who are learning at the secondary-level. Further information on Highly Qualified requirements and routes to becoming Highly Qualified in additional core subject areas is available through employing school districts in Nevada.

 

Note: Applicants must have passed the required exams within five years prior to the date they apply for licensure.


1. Elementary Content Exam: Praxis 5001, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects*

You must pass this test to graduate from this program and be recommended for certification.

 
2. Special Education Content Exam: Praxis 5354, Special Education: Core Knowledge and Applications**
You must pass this test to graduate from this program and be recommended for certification.

 
3. WGU Program Requirement: Praxis 5543, Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications 

You must pass this test to graduate from this program and be recommended for certification.

 

4. Pedagogy Exam: Praxis 5622, Principals of Learning and Teaching: Grades K-6

You must pass this test to be recommended for certification.

 


*Previous Elementary Content Exam Requirements: 

Prior to 9/1/2019: Praxis 5019, Elementary Education: Instructional Practice and Applications 

Prior to 9/1/2014: Praxis 5015

Prior to 9/1/2011: Praxis 0011 and 0012

If you passed these exams prior to the change dates, and apply for licensure within five years of the date the exam was taken, you will still be eligible for certification.

 

**Previous Special Education Content Exam Requirement: Prior to 9/1/2010: Praxis 0351. If you passed this exam prior to the change date, and apply for licensure within five years of the date the exam was taken, you will still be eligible for certification.
