Nevada BA Special Education/ Elementary Education Certification and Exam Requirements

In Nevada, this program leads to an Initial License in Elementary Education Grades K-8 and Exceptional Pupils Generalist Resource Room K-12

Note: You will not be Highly Qualified to be the primary instructor of core academic subjects to special education students who are learning at the secondary-level. Further information on Highly Qualified requirements and routes to becoming Highly Qualified in additional core subject areas is available through employing school districts in Nevada.

 

Note: Applicants must have passed the required exams within five years prior to the date they apply for licensure.


1. Elementary Content Exam: Praxis 5019, Elementary Education: Instructional Practice and Applications*
You must pass this test to graduate from this program and be recommended for certification. 

2. Special Education Content Exam: Praxis 5354, Special Education: Core Knowledge and Applications**
You must pass this test to graduate from this program and be recommended for certification.

 
3. WGU Program Requirement: Praxis 5543, Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications 

You must pass this test to graduate from this program and be recommended for certification.

 

4. Pedagogy Exam: Praxis 5622, Principals of Learning and Teaching: Grades K-6

You must pass this test to be recommended for certification.

*Previous Elementary Content Exam Requirements: Prior to 9/1/2014: Praxis 5015. Prior to 9/1/2011: Praxis 0011 and 0012. If you passed these exams prior to the change dates, you will still be eligible for certification.  

 

**Previous Special Education Content Exam Requirement: Prior to 9/1/2010: Praxis 0351. If you passed this exam prior to the change date, you will still be eligible for certification.
