NV Elementary Education Certification and Exam Requirements

Nevada Elementary Education Certification and Exam Requirements

In Nevada, this program leads to an Initial License in Elementary Education Grades K-8

Note: Applicants must have passed the required exams within five years prior to the date they apply for licensure.

1. Content Exam: Praxis 5001, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects*

You must pass this test to graduate from this program and be recommended for certification. This exam also satisfies the WGU Program Requirement.

*Previous Content Exam Requirements:

Prior to 9/1/2019: Praxis 5019, Elementary Education: Instructional Practice and Applications

Prior to 9/1/2014: Praxis 5015

Prior to 9/1/2011: Praxis 0011 and 0012

If you passed these exams prior to the change dates, and apply for licensure within five years of the date the exam was taken, you will still be eligible for certification.

All graduates from the Elementary Education program will meet this requirement. However, Master's degree students who apply for certification before graduation, may need to make up additional credits in this area. Therefore, it is recommended that MATELK8 students wait until they graduate before applying for licensure.

Students in the Post-Baccalaureate - Elementary and Master of Arts in Teaching - Elementary programs may be eligible for WGU’s Nevada Alternative Route to Licensure (ARL) program. For more information on eligibility requirements, please review the Nevada Alternative Route to Licensure (ARL) student handbook article. Students in the ARL program license via the approved pathway.
