Nevada Secondary Science Certification and Exam Requirements

In Nevada, WGU's initial teacher preparation programs in science lead to an Initial License in one of the following Secondary Science Certification areas:  

Comprehensive (allows you to teach in various types of science classrooms):

Biological Science, Grades 7-12

Single Subject (allows you to teach in only that one subject area):
Chemistry, Grades 7-12
Earth Science, Grades 7-12
Physics, Grades 7-12

 

Note: Applicants must have passed the required exams within five years prior to the date they apply for licensure.

Content Exam: Praxis 5235, Biology: Content Knowledge

This exam also satisfies the WGU Program Requirement

You must pass this test to graduate from this program and be recommended for certification.


Pedagogy Exam: Praxis 5624, Principles of Learning and Teaching (7-12)

You must pass this test to be recommended for certification.

 


 Secondary Chemistry, 7-12

 

Content Exam: Praxis 5245, Chemistry: Content Knowledge

This exam also satisfies the WGU Program Requirement

You must pass this test to graduate from this program and be recommended for certification.

 

Pedagogy Exam: Praxis 5624, Principles of Learning and Teaching (7-12)

You must pass this test to be recommended for certification.

 


 Secondary Earth Science, 7-12

 

NV Content Exam: None required for NV certification

You must pass this test to be recommended for certification.

Students in the Master of Arts in Teaching – Science (5-12) (Biological Science ONLY) program may be eligible for WGU’s Nevada Alternative Route to Licensure (ARL) program. For more information on eligibility requirements, please review the Nevada Alternative Route to Licensure (ARL) student handbook article.
