New York Basic Skills Requirement

Note: On March 14th 2017, New York dropped the Academic Literacy Skills Test as a basic skills exam.  While New York does not currently require a basic skills exam for certification, WGU requires that all students in the Teachers College take and pass a basic skills exam to qualify for field experiences. 

 

Basic Skills Exam Options Retire Date Note
Current Basic Skills Exam Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators: Combined Test (5751) Current Required to meet the WGU Basic Skills Exam requirement.  You must submit a passing score report before applying for WGU Field Experiences.
  Retired: Academic Literacy Skills Test (ALST) 3/14/2017 Accepted to meet the WGU Basic Skills Exam requirement if passed before its retire date.
  Retired: Liberal Arts and Sciences Test (LAST) 4/30/2014 Accepted to meet the WGU Basic Skills Exam requirement if passed before its retire date.
  Retired: Praxis I, PPST Basic Skills Exam 9/1/2010 Accepted to meet the WGU Basic Skills Exam requirement if passed before its retire date.
To ensure that WGU receives your scores and can verify your eligibility for DT, you must fax a copy of your official score report to the Scores Department at 1-801-606-7021 or email a scanned copy to scores@wgu.edu.
