OH Early Childhood Education Certification and Exam Requirements - Direct Pathway

In Ohio, this program leads to a Resident Educator License in Early Childhood Pk-3.

1) WGU Program RequirementIf you matriculated in March 2012, or later, you must pass one of the following exams to graduate from the program and be recommended for certification:

  1. Praxis 5001, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects
  2. Praxis 5018, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge
  3. Praxis 5014, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge
  4. Praxis 5031, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects

2) Content Exam for Ohio Certification:  OAE Early Childhood Education (012)  Note: You are required to pass this exam ONLY if you matriculated prior to March 1, 2012, did not pass the Praxis 0021/5021 prior to September 3, 2013, and DO NOT need to meet the WGU ECE Program Requirement.

Or, if passed prior to 9/3/13, Praxis 5021

3) Pedagogy Exams for Ohio Certification: OAE Assessment of Professional Knowledge: Early Childhood PK-3 (001) AND OAE Foundations of Reading (090)

If your Ohio license will be issued after July 1, 2017, you must pass both of these exams to be recommended for licensure.
