The information in this article pertains to students currently enrolled in an initial middle grades mathematics program. Please note that WGU is not enrolling new students into middle grades mathematics programs in Ohio. Effective 7/1/2019, any student applying for a Middle Childhood license must be eligibile for licensing in two content areas in order for the license to be issued.

In Ohio, this program leads to a Resident Educator license in Middle Childhood Mathematics Grades 4-9.

1) Content Exam: You must pass one of the following exams to graduate from the program and be recommended for certification:

  1. Praxis 5169, Middle School Mathematics (This exam also meets the WGU Program Requirement)
  2. Praxis 0069, Middle School Mathematics (Must be passed prior to September 3, 2013)
  3. OAE Middle Grades Mathematics (030)

2) Pedagogy Exams: OAE Assessment of Professional Knowledge: Middle Childhood 4-9 (002) AND  OAE Foundations of Reading (090)

If your Ohio license will be issued after July 1, 2017, you must pass both of these exams to be recommended for licensure.

3) WGU Program Requirement:  Praxis 5169, Middle School Mathematics

You must pass this exam to graduate from the program and be recommended for certification.
