OH Special Education Mild to Moderate Certification and Exam Requirements - Direct Pathway

In Ohio, this program leads to a Resident Educator license in Intervention Specialist Mild/Moderate Needs K-12.

Required Exams:

Content Exam for Special Education:  Praxis 5543, Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications*. Ohio accepts the OAE Special Education (043) exam as a Special Education content exam for licensure in Ohio. However, WGU students must pass the Praxis 5543 exam even if they have already passed the OAE 043 exam, as the Praxis 5543 exam is a WGU program requirement exam. Ohio accepts the Praxis 5543 exam, as it is the exam required for licensure in WGU's home state of Utah. Therefore, WGU students may pass only the Praxis 5543 exam to satisfy both Ohio and Utah licensing requirements for Special Education.

*If passed prior to 9/3/13, Praxis 5354.However, Praxis 5354 does not satisfy the WGU Program Requirement exam.

Pedagogy Exams:

OAE Assessment of Professional Knowledge: Early Childhood PK-3 (001)

Or, if passed prior to 9/3/13: Praxis 5621, Praxis 5622, Praxis 5623, OR Praxis 5624

and OAE Foundations of Reading (090)

You must pass both of these exams to be recommended for licensure.
