Pennsylvania BA Special Education/ Elementary Education Certification and Exam Requirements

In Pennsylvania, this program leads to a Level I teacher credential in Elementary Grades PREK-4 and Special Education PREK-8.

 

1) Elementary Education Content Exam: PECT Grades Pk-4: Core and Professional Knowledge (Modules 1, 2, and 3)

You must pass this exam to graduate from the program and be recommended for teacher certification.
OR, if passed prior to April 2, 2012, both the Praxis 0511 AND the Praxis 0020, Early Childhood Education

 

2) Special Education Content ExamPECT Special Education Pk-8 (Modules 1 and 2)

You must pass this exam to graduate from the program and be recommended for teacher certification.

OR, if passed prior to April 2, 2012, both the the Praxis 0511 AND  the Praxis 0354.

 

3) WGU Program RequirementPraxis 5543 Core Knowledge and Mild/Moderate Applications

You must pass this exam to graduate from the program.


Please Note: The general Special Education certificate in Pennsylvania qualifies licensees to teach mild/moderate special education students, not students with severe disabilities. Upon certification, graduates will be qualified to be the primary instructor in both mild/moderate special education and regular education settings at the elementary level as well as to provide collaborative/consultative services for special education students at the secondary level.
