Pennsylvania Background Clearance Information
Background checks submitted for clearance in Pennsylvania must be fewer than five years old on the end date of your field placement to meet WGU requirements. All background checks that will expire before the end date of your field placement will need to be renewed by the background clearance deadline set for your cohort.
WGU must receive the results of the following three background checks before clearing you for PCE and DT.
REQUIRED BACKGROUND CLEARANCES
The Pennsylvania State Police Request for Criminal Records Check can be completed online. As a result of this check, you will either be able to print out a "no record" certificate, or you will be mailed a report of your record.
You may submit this request online or by mail.
If you choose to complete a paper application, you must download it, print it, complete the form and submit the form with your payment, by U.S. mail. Clearance results will be mailed within 14 days from the date that the clearance is received.

Go to College and Universities Teacher Education Program to receive the service code needed to get started.
WGU can only accept your background clearance as described above. School district clearances are not accepted for students in Pennsylvania.
WGU CLEARANCE SUBMISSION INFORMATION
WGU is not able to look up your background check results online. You must submit a copy of all your background check results to the WGU Certification Office. Upload your background check results in your student Field Experience portal under PCE Background Clearance and/or DT Background Clearance.
