Pennsylvania Basic Skills Requirements

 

WGU requires all students in initial programs to pass a basic skills exam.  You should sign up to take your basic skills examination when you begin studying Foundations of Teaching to ensure you have time to pass the examination prior to enrollment in Effective Teaching Practices.
 
Choose Any One of the Basic Skills Exam Below
Pre-service Academic Performance Assessment (PAPA): Reading, Writing and Mathematics

Alternative Basic Skills Exams:

Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators: Combined Test (5751)

SAT Critical Reading, Mathematics and Writing

ACT English/Writing and Mathematics

ACT scores acheived before 09/01/2015 may not be used to meet WGU's Basic Skills Exam Requirement for students pursuing certification in Pennsylvania.

Retired:  PPST (Praxis I) - This exam may be used if any of the subtests were passed prior to 12/31/2012.

  

Combining Sub-Tests:

 

Students may combine sub-tests of the PAPA or Alternative Basic Skills Exams for which they have received passing scores to satisfy the Pennsylvania Basic Skills Requirement.  Students must receive passing scores for any Reading, Writing, and Math sub-test to meet the requirement.
