Pennsylvania MS Special Education Certification and Exam Requirements

In Pennsylvania, this program leads to an endorsement in Special Education PREK-8 or 7-12

Graduates of WGU's MS Special Education program will be eligible for general Special Education PREK-8 or 7-12 certification, depending on whether your existing license is in Elementary Education or a Secondary (7-12) license area.

1) Content Exam:

 

Special Education PreK-8 Content ExamPECT Special Education Pk-8 

You must pass this exam to be recommended for the SPED PreK-8 endorsement, if this level corresponds with your current license.

OR, if passed prior to April 2, 2012, both the the Praxis 0511 AND  the Praxis 0354.

 

Special Education 7-12 Content ExamPECT Special Education 7-12 

You must pass this exam to be recommended for the SPED 7-12 endorsement, if this level corresponds with your current license.

OR, if passed prior to April 2, 2012, both the the Praxis 0511 AND  the Praxis 0354.

 

2) WGU Program RequirementPraxis 5543 Core Knowledge and Mild/Moderate Applications

You must pass this exam to graduate from the program.

 

Practicum Requirement:

Those who matriculate in the MS Special Education program after March 1, 2010 will complete 240 in-class clock hours of supervised practicum in elementary and secondary special education classrooms as part of their capstone project.
