Rhode Island Secondary Science Certification and Exam Requirements

In Rhode Island, WGU's initial teacher preparation programs in science lead to an Independent Certification in one of the following areas:  

Biology, Grades 7-12
Chemistry, Grades 7-12
Physics, Grades 7-12

 Science 7-12, Biology

 

1) Content Exam for Rhode Island Certification: Praxis 5235 Biology: Content Knowledge

You're required to pass this exam to graduate from your program and be recommended for certification. 

This exam also satisfies the WGU Program Requirement.

2) Pedagogy Exam: Praxis 5624, Principles of Learning and Teaching Grades 7-12

You're required to pass this exam to be recommended for certification. 

OR Praxis 5524 if passed prior to 9/1/2011 

 


 Science 7-12, Chemistry

 

1) Content Exam for Rhode Island Certification: Praxis 5245, Chemistry: Content Knowledge

You're required to pass this exam to graduate from your program and be recommended for certification. 

This exam also satisfies the WGU Program Requirement.

2) Pedagogy Exam: Praxis 5624, Principles of Learning and Teaching Grades 7-12

You're required to pass this exam to be recommended for certification. 
OR Praxis 5524 if passed prior to 9/1/2011 

 


 Science 7-12, Physics

 

1) Content Exam for Rhode Island Certification: Praxis 5265, Physics: Content Knowledge. 

You're required to pass this exam to graduate from your program and be recommended for certification. 

This exam also satisfies the WGU Program Requirement.

2) Pedagogy Exam: Praxis 5624, Principles of Learning and Teaching Grades 7-12

You're required to pass this exam to be recommended for certification.
