Rhode Island Student Teaching Permit Required for DT

At least 30 days, but not more than 90 days prior to demonstration teaching (DT), you must apply for a Rhode Island Student Teaching Permit by following these steps:

 

  1. Download and print the Student Teaching Permit Application
  2. Complete the application with the exception of Section B-5 on pg. 4.
  3. Upload your student teaching permit application in your student Field Experience portal under DT Background Clearance.
  4. The WGU background specialist will sign the form and submit it for you to the Rhode Island Department of Education. 
  5. Monitor the status of your application using the Rhode Island License Lookup. When your Student Teaching Permit is issued, please notify the WGU Background Checks Department by uploading a screen shot of your issued permit in your student Field Experience portal under DT Background Clearance.
