Adding a New Teaching Area to a South Carolina Teaching Certificate

How to Add an Additional Endorsement
All Endorsement Programs
(MAME, MASE, MSSP, MAELL, ENDELL)
Certified South Carolina educators can apply to add additional certification areas to their current teaching certificates after passing the required Praxis content knowledge exam in the area of certification sought and after completing a teacher preparation program in that area or coursework as prescribed by the South Carolina Department of Education. Note: The requirements to add an endorsement in South Carolina are the same, whether you are adding an endorsement at a new grade level (Elementary to Secondary) or the same grade level (Secondary to Secondary).
Graduates of WGU endorsement preparation programs who hold a valid initial or professional certificate in South Carolina can apply for certification in the area of their completed program by following these steps:
Step 1: Request official transcripts in sealed envelopes from every college where you completed coursework applicable to the endorsement sought. Two copies of your final WGU transcript will be sent to you along with your diploma upon graduation. If you would like to order additional transcripts, see WGU Transcript Request. Be sure to leave your transcripts in the sealed envelopes to be included with your application packet. South Carolina's Department of Education also accepts electronic transcripts sent via Parchment to email@example.com.
Step 2: Once you have received notice of your graduation, fill out only your personal information on the top portion of the South Carolina Verification of College Preparation form which can be found here. After completing only the top portion, send it to WGU Teachers College Licensure using the contact information below. An email submission with pdf attachment is preferred.

A Certification Analyst in the Licensure Department will fill out the remainder of the form and mail it back to you in a sealed envelope for inclusion in your application packet. You will also receive an email with an electronic copy of your completed form once it has been mailed.
Step 3: If the South Carolina Department of Education is not listed as a recipient on your Praxis score report, you will need to contact ETS and request that they mail an official score report directly to SC DOE. You may do this by calling 1-800-772-9476 or by submitting the Additional Score Report Request Form to ETS via fax or mail.
Step 4: Submit your transcripts, College Recommendation Form, and passing Praxis exam score to:
