South Carolina BA Special Education/Elementary Education Certification and Exam Requirements

In South Carolina, this program leads to an Initial License with the certification areas in Elementary Grades 2-6 and Special Education-Multi-categorical (Mild/Moderate).

1) Content Exam for Elementary Certification: Praxis 5001, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects 

You must pass this exam to graduate from the program and be recommended for licensure in South Carolina.

OR, If passed prior to 8/31/17, Praxis 5019, Elementary Education: Instructional Practice and Applications
OR, If passed prior to 9/1/14, Praxis 5015 Elementary Education: Instructional Practice and Applications


2) Content Exam for Special Education Certification: Praxis 5543, Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications

You must pass this exam to graduate from this program and be recommended for licensure in South Carolina. This exam also satisfies the WGU Program Requirement.
   
3) 
Pedagogy Exam: Praxis 5622, Principles of Learning and Teaching K-6*

You must pass this exam to be recommended for licensure in South Carolina. 


*Note: If you completed edTPA during the demonstration teaching portion of your WGU teacher preparation program on or after January 1 2018, then you do not need to pass Praxis 5622, Principles of Learning and Teaching: Elementary K-6 to obtain a license recommendation.
