South Carolina Basic Skills Requirements

Basic Skills Exam:

 Beginning 9/1/2019, Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators: Combined Test (5752)

or, if passed by 8/31/2019, Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators: Combined Test (5751)


The South Carolina Department of Education has established the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators Tests (Core)—Reading, Writing, and Mathematics—as the required basic skills exam for admission into a teacher preparation program.  


To ensure that WGU receives your scores and can verify your eligibility for DT, you must fax a copy of your official score report to WGU's Scores Department at 1-801-606-7021 or email a scanned copy to scores@wgu.edu

 


Previous Basic Skills Exam: 

 

The Praxis I: Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST) can be used to meet the basic skills exam requirement if it was passed prior to August 31, 2014. (NoteYou cannot take a combination of Core and PPST subtests.  You must pass all three Core subtests or all three PPST subtests.

 
Alternate Basic Skills Options: 
 
 
You may be permitted to use your ACT or SAT exam to satisfy the South Carolina basic skills exam requirement. Click here for more information and to see the passing scores accepted in South Carolina for using your SAT or ACT exam. WGU teacher candidates that will license in South Carolina may substitute a passing score on one or more sections of the SAT or ACT for the Equivalent passing scores on the Praxis Core. 
 
ACT and SAT subtest cannot be combined to meet the basic skills requirement in South Carolina.
