South Carolina Early Childhood Education Certification and Exam Requirements

 

 

In South Carolina, this program leads to an Initial License in Early Childhood Education Pk-Grade 3.

 

 

1) Content Exam: Praxis 5024 Education of Young Children

You must pass this exam to graduate from the program and be recommended for licensure in South Carolina. 
Or, if passed prior to 9/1/2014: Praxis 5021, Education of Young Children

 

2) Pedagogy Exam: Praxis 5621, Principles of Learning and Teaching: Early Childhood*

You must pass this exam to be recommended for licensure in South Carolina.

 

3) WGU ECE Program Requirement: If you matriculated on March 1, 2012 or later. You must pass one of the following tests to satisfy the WGU Program Requirement to graduate from your program and be recommended for South Carolina licensure:

 

A. Praxis 5018, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge OR
B. Praxis 5014 (computer), Elementary Education: Content Knowledge OR
C. Praxis 5001, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects OR
D. Praxis 5031, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects

 

*Note: If you completed edTPA during the demonstration teaching portion of your WGU teacher preparation program on or after January 1 2018, then you do not need to pass Praxis 5622, Principles of Learning and Teaching: Elementary K-6 to obtain a license recommendation.
