In South Carolina, this program leads to an Initial License in Mathematics, grades 9-12.
Important Note Regarding Field Experiences and Licensure
1) Content Exam: Praxis 5161, Mathematics: Content Knowledge
You must pass this exam to graduate from the program and be recommended for licensure in South Carolina. This exam also satisfies the WGU Program Requirement.
OR, if passed prior to 9/1/2013, and applying for certification prior to 9/1/2018, Praxis 5061 & Praxis 5063
2) Pedagogy Exam: Praxis 5624, Principles of Learning and Teaching: Grades 7-12*
You must pass this exam to be recommended for licensure in South Carolina.
*Note: If you completed edTPA during the demonstration teaching portion of your WGU teacher preparation program on or after January 1 2018, then you do not need to pass Praxis 5624, Principles of Learning and Teaching: 7-12 to obtain a license recommendation.
