TN Elementary Education Certification and Exam Requirements

Elementary Education Certification Available:  Elementary Education K-5

Exams Requirements: 

 

Note: Applicants must have passed the required exams within five years prior to the date they apply for licensure.

Required Content Exams: 
1. Praxis 5017, Elementary Education: Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
    (OR, if passed by 8/31/2014: Praxis 5011, Elementary Education: Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment)

2. Praxis 5018, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge
    (OR, if passed by 8/31/14 and you apply for licensure by 8/31/2019: Praxis 5014, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge)

Required Pedagogy Exams:

1. Praxis 5203, Teaching Reading: Elementary
     (OR, if passed prior to 9/1/2013 and you apply for licensure by 8/31/2018: Praxis II 5201 Reading Across the Curriculum: Elementary)


2. Praxis 5622, Principles of Learning and Teaching: Elementary K-6

 

Note: Effective 10/1/2016, if you completed edTPA during the demonstration teaching portion of your WGU teacher preparation program, then you do not need to pass Praxis 5622, Principles of Learning and Teaching: Elementary K-6. If you did not complete edTPA, then you will need to pass Praxis 5622 to be eligible for licensure recommendation in Tennessee.
