Texas educators holding a standard teaching certificate and a Bachelor's degree can add new teaching areas to that certificate by passing the TExES exam(s) required for the desired certification area. For further details see the Additional Certification by Exam Information on the TEA website. After passing the required exams, application for the new certification area can be made directly through the certified educator's SBEC account. If you need assistance with converting your existing SBEC account to the new TEAL system, review the instructions and refer to the section for teachers who already have an account.

Note: The policy to add a new certification to your existing Texas license is the same, whether you are adding a new area the same grade level (Secondary > Secondary) or at a new grade level (Elementary > Secondary).
