Texas MS Special Education Certification and Exam Requirements

In Texas, this program leads to an endorsement in Special Education Supplemental
Upon certification, graduates will be able to provide instructional services for students with disabilities at the same grade level as their existing teaching certificate. 


1) WGU Program RequirementPraxis 5543, Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications

If you matriculated after 9/1/2011, you must pass this exam in order to graduate from the MSSP program. 


2) Texas Content Exam: TExES Special Education Supplemental (163)

While not necessary for graduation, you must pass this exam to be recommended for certification.

Those who matriculate in the MS Special Education program after March 1, 2010 will complete 240 in-class clock hours of supervised practicum in elementary and secondary special education classrooms as part of their capstone project.
