TX Middle Grades Science Certification (Post-Bacc and MA Teaching Only)

Texas Middle Grades Science Certification and Exam Requirements (Post-Baccalaureate* and MA Teaching Only)

Not Available for Undergraduate Students: This license is only available to Texas students who are enrolled in the Post-Baccalaureate* or Master of Arts in Teaching in General Science (grades 5-9) program. Students must not enroll in the BA Science (5-9) program as they will not be able to obtain licensure in Texas with that program.

 

In Texas, the middle grades science program leads to a Standard Certificate in Science 4-8

 

1. Content Exam for TX certification: TExES Science 4-8 (116)

Required to be passed before the deadline for your DT cohort. Create an account with ETS/TEAL by following the link and then clicking "Request New User Account." Once your TEAL account has been created, e-mail licensure@wgu.edu for approval of the TExES exams.  

2. Pedagogy Exam for TX certification:  TExES Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities EC-12 (160)

Required before being recommended for licensure in Texas. Create an account with ETS/TEAL by following the link and then clicking "Request New User Account." Once your TEAL account has been created, e-mail licensure@wgu.edu for approval of the TExES exams.  

3. WGU Program Required Exam: a) Praxis 5440 Middle School Science or b) Praxis 0439 Middle School Science
You must pass this exam to graduate from this program and be recommended for teacher certification.

Note: If PB and MAT students ever need to be reminded of their TEA ID number, please email licensure@wgu.edu and request it be provided.
