TX PB or MAT Secondary Science Certification and Exam Requirements - Approved Pathway


In Texas, the PB and MAT Secondary Science program will lead to a Standard Certificate in General Science, Grades 7-12.

The General Science license is the only available license for PB and MAT students applying directly to TX for  licensure upon program completion.  Endorsements in  the other areas  listed below may be added after your initial license is granted.

Chemistry, Grades Grades 7-12

Life Science, Grades 7-12

Physical Science, Grades 6-12


1) Content Exam for Texas Certification: TExES Science 7-12 (236)

You must pass this exam in order to graduate from the program and be recommended for certification


2) WGU Program Required ExamYou must pass one of the four applicable Praxis exams, based on your undergraduate major, to graduate from the program:

a) BiologyPraxis 5235 Biology: Content Knowledge 

b) ChemistryPraxis 5245 Chemistry: Content Knowledge

c) Earth & Space SciencePraxis 5571, Earth and Space Science: Content Knowledge

d) PhysicsPraxis 5265 Physics: Content Knowledge


3) Texas Pedagogy Exam: TExES Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities EC-12 (160)

You must pass this exam for certification. 


Before registering for your TExES exam, you must request approval for the exam by emailing licensure@wgu.edu.
