Texas has the following general requirements for all applicants for standard teacher certification.

1. DEGREE REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from a Bachelor's degree program.

2. BACKGROUND CLEARANCE: Background clearance resulting from completion of the required background check upon application for teacher certification.

3. CONTENT AND PEDAGOGY EXAMS: Passing scores on the required TExES content and pedagogy exams. Students in a MAT or Post-bacc teacher licensure program at WGU are required to take these exams during the course of their WGU program.

Note: TExES exams can only be taken 5 times. If you do not pass an exam by the 5th attempt, you can contact Licensure at licensure@wgu.edu to request a waiver for additional attempts.
