Utah BA Special Education/ Elementary Education Certification and Exam Requirements
In Utah, this program leads to a Level 1 license in both Elementary Education Grades K-6 and 1-8, and Mild/Moderate Special Education K-12.
1) Elementary Education Content Exam: Praxis 5001, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects
You must pass this exam to graduate from the program and be recommended for certification.
Or, if one subtest was passed prior to 8/31/2014, and all four subtests passed prior to 7/1/2015, Praxis 5031
Or, if passed prior to 9/1/2012, Praxis 5014
2) Special Education Content Exam: Praxis 5543 Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications OR Praxis 5354 Special Education: Core Knowledge and Applications
You must pass one of these exams to graduate from the program and be recommended for certification. The Praxis 5543 is the recommended exam because it also satisfies the WGU Program Requirement.
3) WGU Program Requirement: Praxis 5543, Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications
If you matriculated after 9/1/2011, and took Praxis 5354 to meet the Special Education content exam requirement, you must take this exam to graduate from the program and be recommended for certification.
