VA Early Childhood Education Certification and Exam Requirements

Virginia Early Childhood Education Certification and Exam Requirements

In Virginia, this program leads to a teaching license with an endorsement in Early/Primary Education Pk-3.

1) Content Exam for Virginia Certification: Praxis 5001, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects *
OR Praxis 5031, Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects if passed prior to 7/1/2015
OR Praxis 5014, Elementary Education: Content Knowledge, if passed prior to 7/1/2014

*If you passed any - but not all - Praxis 5031 subtests prior to July 1, 2015, then you only need to pass the corresponding 5001 subtests you have not yet passed. For example, if you took the 5031 prior to July 1, 2015, but only passed the 5032 and 5033 subtests, you can now take and pass the 5004 and 5005 subtests of the 5001 to satisfy the content exam requirement.

2) WGU Program Requirement : Praxis 5001 Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects

You must pass this exam, or a WGU Program Requirement exam previously accepted for the Early Childhood Education program, in order to graduate from this program and be recommended for certification.
Note: Students who matriculated before March 1, 2012 are not required to meet this requirement.

3) Pedagogy Exam: Reading for Virginia Educators: Elementary and Special Education (RVE) (5306)
(If passed prior to July 1, 2011: Virginia Reading Assessment (VRA))
