US Virgin Islands Certification Requirements & Available Licenses

The US Virgin Islands have the following general requirements for all applicants for initial teacher licensure:

 

Early Childhood Educator, Grades K-3 

Elementary Educator, Grades K-6 

Special  Educator, Mild/Moderate, Grades K-12 

Not Available: Middle School Mathematics 

Not Available: Middle School General Science 

Secondary Social Science, Grades 7-12 

Secondary Mathematics, Grades 7-12 

Secondary Science - Biology, Grades 7-12 

Secondary Science - Chemistry, Grades 7-12 

Secondary Science  - Physics, Grades 7-12 

Not Available: Geosciences 

Not Available: English as a Second Language 

Elementary or Middle School Secondary Principal, K-12 


1. DEGREE: Graduation from a Bachelor's degree program from an accredited college or university.

2. PROGRAM: Completion of a state-approved/ accredited teacher education program.

3. BACKGROUND CHECK: Submission of cleared background checks from every location in which the applicant resided for more than one year.


4. BASIC SKILLS EXAM: Passing scores on the required basic skills exam

5. CONTENT EXAMS: Passing scores on the required subject matter examinations.

6. VIRGIN ISLANDS HISTORY: Complete a course in Virgin Islands History within the first year or employment.
