LICENSE AND EXAM REQUIREMENTS
Secondary Mathematics Certification Available: Secondary Mathematics Grades 7-12
Graduates of a WGU Master of Arts in Mathematics Education (MAME) grades 5-12 teacher preparation program will be eligible for grades 7-12 mathematics teacher certification in the U.S. Virgin Islands, which will allow them to teach in any single subject mathetmatics classroom in that grade range. While WGU's mathematics teacher preparation programs cover grades 5-12, grades 7-12 certification will be awarded in the VI because that is how the VI Department of Education defines the grade range of secondary-level certification.
The U.S. Virgin Islands offers certification in grades 7-12 and does not have certification specific to the middle grade level.
To add a new endorsement area to a current U.S. Virgin Islands teaching license, you must meet all certification requirements for the new area with the exception of student teaching. Educators must have 26 semester credits in the new area and the completion of teacher pedagogy/methodology courses. More information can be found at the US Virgin Islands Department of Education website.
