Virgin Islands Master of Arts in Science Education (MASE) Certification and Exam Requirements

Note:  While we do our best to give you accurate and up to date information about your state requirements, we are not infallible.  State requirements change frequently.  It is your responsibility, and in your best interest, to double check certification and licensure requirements with your state's Department of Education.

LICENSE AND EXAM REQUIREMENTS

Secondary Science Certifications Available
Science with Biology Specialization, Grades 7-12
Science with Chemistry Specialization, Grades 7-12
Science with Physics Specialization, Grades 7-12

Graduates of a WGU Master of Arts in Science Education (MASE) grades 5-12 program will be eligible for grades 7-12 teacher certification in the U.S. Virgin Islands in the area(s) in which they have content specialization.  While WGU's secondary science teacher preparation programs cover grades 5-12, grades 7-12 certification will be awarded in the VI because that is how the VI Department of Education defines the grade range of secondary-level certification.

The U.S. Virgin Islands offers certification in grades 7-12 and does not have certification specific to the middle grade level. Therefore, WGU students should not enroll in a middle grades program.

To add a new endorsement area to a current U.S. Virgin Islands teaching license, you must meet all certification requirements for the new area with the exception of student teaching.  Educators must have 26 semester credits in the new area and the completion of teacher pedagogy/methodology courses.  More information can be found at the US Virgin Islands Department of Education website.
