Vermont has the following general requirements for all applicants for initial teacher licensure:

1. DEGREE: Hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited or state-approved institution and a major, or its equivalent, in the liberal arts and sciences, or in the content area of the endorsement sought.

2. PROGRAM: Completion of a teacher education program that includes student teaching and is approved to lead to teacher certification in the home-state of the program.

3. RECOMMENDATION: Recommendation for certification by the teacher certification program.

4. BACKGROUND CLEARANCE: Background clearance resulting from completion of the required background check.

 

5. BASIC SKILLS EXAM:Passing scores on the required basic skills exam

 

6. CONTENT EXAM:Passing scores on the required subject matter examinations.
