Vermont Teacher and Administrator Certification Application Information and Instructions

 

Follow the steps below to prepare your application for initial teacher or administrator licensure in Vermont:

 

Step 1: Request official transcripts in sealed envelopes from every college you have attended. Two copies of your final WGU transcript will be sent to you along with your diploma upon graduation. You will upload your transcripts to Vermont's online Licensing System for Educators, referenced in Step 4. If you would like to order additional transcripts, see WGU Transcript Request. Do not request a transcript until you have received notice of graduation, so that your graduation date will appear on your transcript. Masters students may request a transcript after completing the teacher preparation portion of their Masters program.   

Step 2: Write to licensure@wgu.edu and request that a "Recommendation for Educator Licensure" be sent to you for inclusion in your application packet. WGU uses a specific template that has been provided by the Vermont Department of Education.

Step 3: If the Vermont Agency of Education is not listed as a recipient on your Praxis score report, you will need to contact ETS and request that they mail an official score report directly to Vermont Agency of Education.  You may do this by calling 1-800-772-9476 or by submitting the Additional Score Report Request Form to ETS via fax or mail.

Step 4: Go to the Vermont Agency of Education's Online Licensing System for Educators and create an account using the "Never held an Educator License in Vermont? Click here" link, or if you have an account, log on.

 

 

Refer to the Apply for a VT Educator License Tutorial for guidance on completing your application.

Step 5: At the completion of the application process you will arrive at a Confirmation and Checklist.  Print the Request for Criminal Record Check form if applicable. Sign, notarize and mail it to the Vermont Agency of Education.

 

Then print your Fingerprint Authorization Certificate and take it to the fingerprinting center to complete the fingerprinting process.

 

Please note that if you have not been previously fingerprinted for employment in a Vermont school , it may take at least 2-3 months to recieve an email from VT-AOE-Message@state.vt.us requesting you logon to your account and complete the final payment for your license.

Step 6: Applicants for school administrator licensure must provide verification on school district letterhead of three or more years of experience as a pk-12 educator and a separate letter verifying practicum hours. These letters will be uploaded through the online licensing system. 

Step 7: At the completion of the process you will receive confirmation from the Vermont Agency of Education that your license has been issued and you can log in and print your your License Details.
