Washington Basic Skills Requirement
Basic Skills Exam: Washington Educator Skills Test-Basic (West-B)
Washington requires its own basic skills examination for initial licensure called the Washington Educator Skills Test-Basic, or West-B. You are required to pass all three sections (Reading, Writing, and Mathematics) of the West-B within the first 6 months of entering the Foundations of Teaching (FOT) domain at WGU. To fulfill WGU's basic skills requirement you must obtain a passing score of 240 on each of the three sections.
To ensure that WGU receives your scores and can verify your eligibility for field experiences, you must email a scanned copy of your official score report to the Assessments Office at firstname.lastname@example.org, or fax a copy to 1-801-606-7021.
Alternate Basic Skills Options:
You may be permitted to use your SAT or ACT exam to satisfy the Washington basic skills exam requirement. Click here for more information on using your SAT or ACT exam for Washington. WGU teacher candidates that will license in Washington may substitute a passing score on one or more sections of the SAT or ACT for the equivalent passing scores on the WEST-B.
To ensure WGU receives your SAT or ACT scores, you must email a scanned copy of your official score report to the Assessments Office at email@example.com, or fax a copy to 1-801-606-7021.
