WGU Praxis Program / Graduation Requirements

WGU Praxis Program / Graduation Requirements

The exams indicated on the chart below are WGU program requirements for students who matriculated at WGU in 2007 or later. These exams must be passed in order for students in these programs to meet requirements for graduation.

Note: These exams are often IN ADDITION to the certification exams that students in initial licensure programs must take to fulfill Demonstration Teaching and graduation requirements. Students in a Master of Arts in Teaching program must pass these exams to be eligible for a licensure recommendation even if they have not yet graduated from their program.

Readmission Policy: If you have withdrawn or have been withdrawn from WGU and readmitted, or if you have made a program change where your major and/or concentration have changed, you are required to satisfy the Praxis assessment and state content licensing requirements in effect the date of your readmission or program change.

Other Important Policies: Please refer to important policies on test fees, minimum cut scores, and instructions for submitting score reports published at the bottom of this article.

WGU GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS BY PROGRAM:

Initial Teacher Preparation Programs: If you are enrolled in an initial teacher preparation program (demonstration teaching is included in your program), then you are required to pass all basic skills and content exams required to obtain a license in your home-state in order to graduate from WGU (including Utah required exams, if your state requires reciprocity). This requirement is in addition to the Praxis exam listed in the table below. See the State Certification Exams - General Policies article for more information. See also the policy at the bottom of this article for Post-Baccalaureate graduates who return to complete MA Teaching programs.

Endorsement Preparation Programs: If you are enrolled in an endorsement preparation program (MAME, MASE, MSSP, ENDELL, and MAELL), then you must only pass the Praxis exam required by WGU as listed in the table below. Any additional content exams, required by your state for licensure, are not required to graduate from WGU in these programs.

Educational Leadership Programs: If you are enrolled in an Educational Leadership program (ENDEDL, MSEDL), then you must pass both the WGU Praxis Requirement listed in the table below AND any exam required by your home-state for licensure to graduate from WGU.

PRAXIS WGU PROGRAM REQUIREMENT PASSING SCORES:

Depending on the date you enrolled at WGU, your degree plan may or may not include a Praxis assessment. Whether or not the assessment is included in your degree plan, you will be required to pass this exam to satisfy the Praxis WGU Program Requirement described in the table of exams above.

PASSING REQUIREMENTS

If a Praxis Assessment IS Included in Your Degree Plan

If your degree plan includes a Praxis assessment, then you must meet the WGU cut score to receive a pass on your degree plan for the Praxis assessment. If you are in an initial teacher preparation program, or if you are in an endorsement program and you wish to add an endorsement to your credential, then you must also meet your state’s cut score to satisfy graduation and licensure requirements. The WGU cut score and the state cut score may be different. Each cut score must be met for both graduation and licensure requirements.

If a Praxis Program Requirement IS NOT Included in Your Degree Plan

If your degree plan does not include a Praxis exam, then you must meet your state’s cut score to satisfy the Praxis WGU Program Requirement described in the table of exams above. If your state does not have a cut score for the required exam, then you must pass according to the cut scores set by the Utah State Office of Education.

POST-BACCALAUREATE GRADUATES WHO RETURN TO COMPLETE A MASTER OF ARTS IN TEACHING PROGRAM:

If you formally graduated from a WGU post-baccalaureate teacher preparation program, and then re-enroll at WGU to complete the corresponding (same subject area) MA Teaching program, then you do not need to pass the content exams required for certification in your state to graduate from the MA Teaching program. However, you must pass any new WGU Praxis Program requirement, as listed in the table above, that is required at the time you re-enroll at WGU. Note that if you did not apply for certification immediately after graduating from your Post-Baccalaureate program, WGU cannot guarantee you will have met any new certification requirements/exams and you may be required to pass additional exams after you graduate from the MA Teaching program for certification. See also the policy on Second Degree Matriculation and refer to the bullet point on completing a second initial licensure program.
