How to Add an Additional Endorsement

 



All Endorsement Programs

 


(MAME, MASE, MSSP, MAELL, ENDELL)

 


Educators holding current West Virginia Professional Teaching Certificates can apply to add endorsements to their certificates solely upon the basis of passing the corresponding West Virginia content exam.  They may do so using Form 8 C—Additional Endorsement with Praxis Only.

 

WGU advanced program graduates may apply using Form 8-Additional Endorsement after passing the designated Praxis exam and completing their teacher preparation program.

 
Note: The requirements to add an endorsement in West Virginia are the same, whether you are adding an endorsement at a new grade level (Elementary to Secondary) or the same grade level (Secondary to Secondary).

 

 

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:

 

Step 1: Request official transcripts in sealed envelopes from every college where you completed coursework applicable to the endorsement sought. Two copies of your final WGU transcript will be sent to you along with your diploma upon graduation. If you would like to order additional transcripts, see WGU Transcript Request. Do not request a transcript until you have received notice of graduation, so that your graduation date will appear on your transcript. Be sure to leave your transcripts in the sealed envelopes to be included with your application packet

Step 2: Download Form 8, the Additional Endorsement Application.  Complete sections 1-3 on the first page and the "Applicant's Request" section on p. 2.

Step 3: Fax, or scan and email page 2 of the application form, the "College Recommendation," to the WGU Certification Officer at the contact information below for completion of the second page. Email attachments should be in pdf format.

The Certification Officer will return the form to you as a pdf file for inclusion in your application packet.


Step 4: Submit page 1 of the application to the superintendent (or their designee) of the WV school system in which you are employed, for completion of section 4.  If you are not currently employed in a WV School System, then you need to have a current or former educational employer, or, if that isn't possible, a community leader complete Form 4B, Character Reference.

Step 5: Mail your complete application packet (official transcript, application form, college recommendation, and character reference form, if necessary) to:
