Adding an Endorsement to a Wyoming Teaching License

The information in this article applies to students enrolled in specific WGU endorsement programs. General information for adding endorsements in subject areas that are not offered at WGU can be found through the Wyoming PTSB website.

How to Add an Additional Endorsement 

All Endorsement Programs

(MAME, MASE, MSSP, MAELL, ENDELL)

Route 1: Program Completion (WGU Programs)
You may apply to add an additional subject area by passing the required Praxis content knowledge exam in the area of certification sought and completing an endorsement preparation program in that area.  Follow the Application Instructions below.

 

Note: The requirements to add an endorsement in Wyoming through program completion are the same, whether you are adding an endorsement at a new grade level (Elementary to Secondary) or the same grade level (Secondary to Secondary).

Route 2: Demonstration of Competency (Not Available Through WGU)
"Demonstration of Competency," involves completing 27 semester hours of coursework in the new content area and passing the Praxis exam required by the state of Wyoming for licensure in that endorsement area. The Demonstration of Competency route can only be used to add endorsements at the same grade level as your current Wyoming teaching certificate. This option is not available through WGU.

 

 

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

The Certification Officer cannot recommend you for a special education endorsement until you have graduated and WGU has copies of all required state content exam scores.

Graduates of WGU endorsement preparation programs need to apply for endorsements to their Wyoming licence by following these steps: 

 

Step 1: Request official transcripts in sealed envelopes from every college you have attended. Two copies of your final WGU transcript will be sent to you along with your diploma upon graduation. If you would like to order additional transcripts, see WGU Transcript Request. If you choose to order an e-transcript, you must have them sent to ptsbtranscripts@wyo.gov. Do not request a transcript until you have received notice of graduation, so that your graduation date will appear on your transcript.

Step 2: Download the Wyoming Add Endorsement Application Packet and fill out Section I. Applicant Information of the Institutional Recommendation form found on page 12. 

 

Send the partially completed Institutional Recommendation to WGU's Licensure Office at licensure@wgu.edu.  Use your current mailing address on the form.  A WGU Certification Officer will complete it and mail it back to you in a sealed envelope for inclusion in your application packet.


Step 3: Complete and compile your application packet, and mail it to:
